Staff harassing me: Dalit civic chief

A woman dalit panchayat president in the district has complained that a civic body staff was preventing her from scrutinising the accounts.

Masanam, president of Kulasekaramangalam panchayat coming under Melanellithanallur panchayat union, petitioned the Collector during the grievance day meeting here on Monday seeking his action on the issue

In her petition, she stated that ever since she was elected the president of the Kulasekaramangalam panchayat, she was being prevented by a particular staff from verifying the accounts of the rural body. “Adding to the pains, the staff also prevented my husband from seeing me when he came to meet me at the office,” she said in her complaint

Moreover, the staff also refused to heed my orders concerning the civic body work and also threatened me, she added Masanam said she could not discharge her duties as a panchayat president freely due to the indifferent attitude of the said staff.

Besides, five councillors, R Mariammal, M Ganesan, K Velsami, M Seethalakshmi and K Santhi, of the panchayat, also submitted a petition demanding action against the panchayat staff.
