Police are searching for clues to crack the murder of a 21-year-old mentally-ill girl, whose body was found covered with sand and leaves in a secluded place near her house near Govindanpet, here on Thursday evening.

Sources said a resident of the nearby area was questioned in this connection. Police suspect that it was a murder for gain as the ornaments worn by the girl were found missing. But the relatives alleged it to be a rape and murder case and picketed the police station on Thursday night. They alleged that there were signs of the culprit using force on the victim before committing the offense. Sources said that it could be ascertained only after receiving the post mortem report.

Meanwhile, the police pacified the agitators and assured them that the culprit would be booked.
