The district police arrested a 52-year-old man and his two sons on charges of assaulting the family members of a youth who was in love with his daughter, in Avaniyapuram, here, on Friday.
According to the police, M Prakash of Vinobaji Nagar was in love with Ranjitha (17) (name changed), a class XII student of a government school in Avaniyapuram.
Learning of the affair, the girl’s family warned the youth to give up the relationship.
However, Prakash and Ranjitha left their homes two days ago and returned on Thursday.
A quarrel broke out between the members of both the boy’s and girl’s families as well as the neighbours. Ranjitha’s family members allegedly attacked the youth and he had to be admitted to hospital.
A complaint was made and the Avaniyapuram police registered a case on Friday against Ranjitha’s father Muniyandi, and his sons Surya and Ramesh.
All three were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
