More rail ticket counters sought

The Ambur Consumer Protection Movement has urged railway authorities to establish additional ticket counters at Ambur railway station to render better service to the increasing number of passengers.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the recent meeting of the movement chaired by president Gunaseelan. According to M Akber, secretary of the forum, the station was crowded especially during the morning hours, when commuters stand in long queues and very often don’t get tickets to travel. The authorities could open additional counters at least on the first two days of the week when the station is very crowded, the members said.

The movement has also appealed to the railway authorities to make provision for more toilets and drinking water facilities. The approach road to the railway station should also be re-laid, they added.

The movement has also requested the Ambur municipality to take immediate steps to lay quality tar topping on Omer road which was receiving maximum footfalls. The forum also objected to the high consumer deposit amount that had been increased without intimating consumers.
