Stir planned against Sri Lankan army training

Various political parties and Tamil outfits have decided to lay siege to the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington at Nilgiris on Tuesday to protest the Central government’s decision to provide military training to two Sri Lankan defence officers.

Sri Lankan officers Wing Commander M S Bandara Dassanayke and Major CS Harishchandra Hettiarachchige are currently undergoing training at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. Following opposition from political parties and Tamil outfits, police have enhanced the security arrangement at Wellington.

An all-party meeting to take a decision on this issue was held at Periyar Padipagam, which was attended by 19 parties and outfits, including the TPDK, MDMK, VCK, trader’s association, and Dalit outfits.
