Woman, paramour held for murdering Chennai worker

A woman was arrested on Sunday for encouraging her paramour to kill her husband. After planning for months, the duo killed the husband Srinivasan near Panruti two weeks ago.

Srinivasan(30), a native of Panruti, was employed in a pharmacy shop at Pattalam in Chennai. He married Kalpana, a resident of Thattanchavadi, last year.

On June 1, the couple were in Panruti to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. They had gone to silver beach in Cuddalore and were on their way home. When they were nearing Thiruvathigai near Panruti, Srinivasan was murdered. After the incident, Kalpana lodged a police complaint claiming that her husband was murdered by miscreants, who had also robbed her jewellery.

Following her complaint, Villupuram range DIG Murugan and Cuddalore district SP A Radhika inspected the spot and formed three special teams to nab the miscreants. Headed by Panruti DSP Krishnasamy, police carried out investigation in different angles. It was only after examining the cell phone conversations that police found out the murderers.

Meanwhile, Dineshbabu(27) of Panruti Melapalayam surrendered before Egmore court in Chennai on June 6 in relation to the murder. Panruti police inquired Dinesh Babu, following which the police came to know that Kalpana and Dinesh Babu had an illicit relationship for the past few years. They planned and killed Srinivasan with help of Murali, a friend of Dinesh Babu. In this situation, police arrested Kalpana and questioned her. Kalpana in her statement to the police, reportedly, said, “Dinesh Babu and I were in love from college days. Since we belong to different castes, we could not marry.

“Meanwhile, Dinesh Babu married Vidhya. But our illicit relationship continued. My parents married me to Srinivasan, our relative.

Gradually, my husband came to know about my illicit relationship with Dinesh. Hence, I planned to murder him. As per the plan, I brought my husband to Cuddalore, a day after our wedding anniversary, and while returning home at night, Dinesh Babu and his friend Murali killed Srinivasan.

“To divert attention of the police, I said that the miscreants killed my husband and then robbed my jewels.” Following this, police recovered the knife with bloodstain and jewels from Dinesh Babu’s house. Murali, who owns a studio, was also arrested.
