A woman was arrested on Monday in Manapparai on charges of murdering her husband. It is said that the woman threw a boulder on the man’s head and killed him.
Sources said, Palanisamy (37), from Avarampatti in Vaiyyampatti near Manapparai and his wife Mariammal (34) both construction workers, used to frequently quarrel.
Palanisamy, a drunkard, used to torture Mariamman whenever he was drunk.
On Sunday evening, Palanisamy got heavily drunk, and pulled up a quarrel with Mariammal, and assaulted her. Palanisamy had allegedly caught Mariammal’s hair and dragged her out of house and tried to hit her head on a wall. But Mariammal escaped. The torment continued till late night.
Irritated over her husband’s torture, Mariammal who woke up in the early hours next day, took a boulder and dropped it on Palanisamy’s head and killed him on the spot.
Meanwhile, neighbours alerted the Nadupatti Village Administrative Officer Rajkumar about the incident. Based on a complaint filed by the VAO, a police team led by Manapparai Deputy Superintendent of Police Meena rushed to the spot and retrieved the body and sent it for post mortem. They also arrested Mariammal. Vaiyyampatti police are investigating.
