DMK activist held on sedition charge

D Karl Marx (63), state secretary of the women volunteer’s wing of the DMK, was arrested at her residence here on Friday by Chennai police, on charges of sedition and criminal intimidation.

A police team led by Siva Baskar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chennai, arrested her early morning and took her to Chennai.

Sources said that a case under Sections 124 A (Sedition), 506 (2) of the IPC was registered against D Karl Marx, after Selvakumar, an advocate filed a complaint against her for her speech during the workshop for speakers of DMK, held at Anna Arivalayam in Teynampet on May 19, 2013.

The speech was reported in a bi-weekly Tamil Magazine. Quoting the report in the Tamil Magazine, where Karl Marx allegedly spoke that she was ready to become a ‘human bomb’ to face the political rivals of DMK, Selvakumar had filed a petition in the HC against Karl Marx, and Teynampet police filed a case on June 18, 2013.

“This is a foisted case. I will face it legally,” Karl Marx said to reporters.
