Wildlife census kickstarts in the Nilgiris

The Nilgiri Wildlife and Environment Association (NWLEA), in association with the Forest Department’s Nilgiris North, South and Gudalur divisions, started a three-day synchronised wildlife census here on Friday.

S Rajan, Honorary Secretary of NWLEA, said that the forest officials, workers and volunteers were given training and briefing regarding the census process on Friday. The actual field census would be conducted on Saturday and Sunday, he said.

Rajan said that 90 teams, comprising forest department staff and volunteers, would conduct census.
