Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced that memorials would be raised for Swami Sahajananda of Chidambaram and freedom fighters Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. She also announced a memorial for Kuyili, the commander of freedom fighter Velu Nachiyar.
Making a suo motu statement in the State Assembly, the CM said CK Thamizharasan (RPI) and S Gunasekaran (CPI) had made requests for raising a memorial for Kuyili. She said the memorial for her would be established in the complex being constructed for the memorial of Velu Nachiyar.
Similarly, the request for raising memorials in honour of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan was made by A Soundararajan and K Balabharathi (CPM). The CM said a memorial would be built for both freedom fighters in one complex in Dindigul district.
