LTTE suspects arrested from Chennai flat

Two suspected members of the banned LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam) were allegedly arrested from an apartment at Mogappair on Friday. ‘Q’ branch sleuths were reportedly on the duo’s trail for almost eight months now.

The suspects — Sivaneshwaran alias Nesan (34) and Gopi alias Manoharan (37) — were part of a six-member group of ex-LTTE workers staying in the city to devise bombs for triggering blasts in Sri Lanka, ‘Q’ Branch sources said. While four from the group were detained in December last from a house at Pozhichalur in Kanche-epuram, Nesan and Gopi had been evading arrest.

“Suresh Kumar, who was with LTTE’s technical wing, was heading the group. They had even done a trial run detonating a bomb in a remote place near Panturi in August last and recorded it on a laptop,” said a Q-branch officer.
