Congress MP bats for 'fishing sans frontiers'

Taking an initiative single-handedly to bring about a solution over sporadic arrests and detention of TN fishermen by Sri Lankan forces, K S Alagiri, Congress MP, has made a mutually beneficial proposal to Colombo to put an end to this issue. He also asserted that, if New Delhi was interested in pursuing the proposal, Colombo would pursue it in earnest.

Talking to the reporters here on Monday, after his return from to Sri Lanka, Alagiri said his proposal of fishing sans frontiers will put an end to the tussle between the fishermen of both the countries. “Fishermen from TN can fish in the territorial waters of Sri Lanka for 15 days continuously and vice-versa.’’ When I proposed this as a solution to stop detention of Indian fishermen, Basil Rajapaksa affirmed that his government would back the move if India too pursued the proposal.”
