A primary school teacher, who allegedly sexually assaulted a third standard student, was suspended by the School Education Department here on Monday night.

Director of school education E Vallavan told Express on Tuesday that the suspension order was issued on Monday night after it was found during the priliminary inquiries that there was a prima facie case in the issue.

It might be recalled that the 57-year-old teacher, Harikrishnan, was arrested on Monday evening for assaulting a third standard girl student at the Government Primary School at Irulanchanthai on August 28. The teacher has been booked under Section 9 and 10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Deivasigamoni told Express that the accused teacher had also molested other girl students in the school. Police personnel from Bahour police station visited the school and recorded the statements of those students.

Deivasigamoni said the investigation in the case wo-uld be speeded up and thechargesheet filed at the earliest.

The accused was produced before the local court, which ordered his judicial custody for 15 days.

In another case, the School Education Department had suspended another teacher for ‘misbehaving’ with girl students. The teacher is working in the primary section of the Government Higher Secondary School in Sellipet.
