Parents kill teen son, surrender out of guilt

In a shocking denouement, parents who had killed their 18-year-old son two months back surrendered to the VAO apparently out of guilt at Perambalur district on Saturday. The couple said in a statement that they decided to reveal the gruesome incident due to prick of conscience. They were handed over to police.

Palanimuthu (50) and his wife Panchali of Pennakonam (North), Perambalur, had formulated a plan with two other men to get rid of their son Loganathan (18) who frequently pestered them for money. Consequently, Palanimuthu took Loganathan on the pretext that they could visit Tiruchy in a bike on July 1. Meanwhile, Thangavel (50), a relative and Mohamed Areef (33), a meat shop owner joined the father-son duo.

However, Loganathan tried to escape from the clutches of the four, but in vain as they tied the boy’s hands and legs with a rope. Later, they stoned Loganathan to death at Padalur bridge and to leave no trace of the act, they tore his clothes and flung it under bushes. After a few days, as the villagers asked for Loganathan, his parents said that he had absconded. Unable to bear the guilt, the duo surrendered later.
