Rs 4 lakhs worth jewels lost in government bus

Gold jewels weighing about 16.5 sovereigns, worth about 4 lakh, were stolen from a 25-year-old woman, travelling in a Chennai-bound government bus in Arni town on Sunday.

Police department sources said that  Samundeswari and her husband Saravannan (40) of Perumbur in Chennai had come to Arni town on Saturday to attend their relative’s marriage. After attending the marriage, the couple went to Arni bus stand to board a bus to Chennai around 11.30 am on Sunday. Before leaving the marriage hall, Samundeswari had packed the jewels in a box and kept it in her handbag.

However, after thebus left Arni bus stand,  Samundeswari suddenly noticed that the her handbag  was unzipped, police sources added further. She immediately searched for the jewel box and was shocked to  found it missing.

Following this, the couple immediately stopped the bus and approached the Arni town police and lodged a complaint in this regard. Police registered a case and began investigations.
