Sexagenarian held for sodomy near Nazareth

A 68-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sodomising a 10-year-old boy at Periyasamipuram near Nazareth on Sunday night.

A 68-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sodomising a 10-year-old boy at Periyasamipuram near Nazareth on Sunday night.

According to police, Arulraj, a widower from Periyasamipuram, who was running a pay-and-use toilet in the area, was caught in the act by the 10-year-old’s mother at the former’s residence. When the woman threatened to lodge a complaint, Arulraj is said to have warned her of dire consequences. However, she lodged a complaint, following which police took Arulraj into custody.

During interrogation, Arulraj is said to have admitted to the crime following which a case was booked against him under sections 377 and 506 (ii) of IPC, Sec 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act-2012 and 9 (V) of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act-1989. Arulraj was remanded.
