In a swift operation, an 18-year-old girl and her father, who were kidnapped by a father-son duo, were rescued by police here on Wednesday morning. Cops subsequently arrested the duo also.
Police said that Unnamalai (18) daughter of Arunagiri, a farmer from Thekampattu in Kalrayan Hills, was engaged to Govindan (22), son of Kullaboss (55) from Avarampooanur in Kalaryan Hills in Villupuram distirct.
With just a few days to go for the marriage, Unnamalai suddenly refused to marry Govindan. Her parents tried to convince her, but in vain.
When Kullaboss came to know about the girl’s U-turn, he met Arunanigir and demanded him to pay the expenses incurred for making arrangements for the wedding. But, Arunagiri refused to heed his demand. Kullaboss, who was infuriated by this, barged into the house of Arunagiri around 1 am along with five persons and kidnapped Unnamalai and her father in a car.
Immediately, Arunagiri’s son Govindaraj lodged a complaint to the Karumandurai police in connection with the kidnap of his father and sister.
Acting on the complaint, a team, led by Sub Inspector M Perumal, launched a hunt and traced Unnamalai and Arunagiri held in captivity at Kullaboss’ house. The police rescued the girl and her father and arrested Govindan and Kullaboss.
The father-son duo were brought to Attur and were remanded to judicial custody in the evening.
