Burglars broke into an apartment where the son of Madurantakam AIADMK MLA S Kanitha Sampath was staying, and made away with five sovereigns of gold on Thursday.

According to police, the MLA’s son Chandru, a student of a private medical college, was staying in the apartment at Kanniyakoil under Kirumampakkam police station limits.

On Thursday, upon returning from college, Chandru found the window grills damaged. When he checked the bureau, he found the five sovereigns of gold he had kept in it missing.

Police, who arrived at the spot, found that the burglars had also gained entry into a nearby apartment where another medical student from Kerala was staying.
