The second additional district court awarded life imprisonment on Saturday to a 40-year-old man who murdered a 73-year-old man in a quarrel related to a pathway at Siruganur near here.
M Jahir Hussain (40), a Gulf returnee and a resident of Ethumalai village near Siruganur used to frequently quarrel with his neighbour P Noorjahan (29) over a pathway separating their houses. Noorjahan’s husband Bhavashah was employed abroad. On May 30, 2010, Hussain demolished the concrete wall constructed by Noorjahan for preventing rain water entering her house.
This resulted into a quarrel between the duo and Hussain threatened to assault Noorjahan. On seeing this, Noorjahan’s father Bhava Sahib (73), of of Bhadar Thottam in Chennai, intervened and attempted to save Noorjahan.
However, Hussain who rushed with a wooden log assaulted the old man instead in which he sustained severe head injury and died at the Tiruchy hospital.
