Acting on a direction from the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court a case was registered against a retired assistant director (audit), attached to Madurai collectorate, for scolding a dalit panchayat secretary using his caste name, here on Saturday.

According to police, the complainant Chinna Karuppu, panchayat secretary of Karungalakkudi village, was under suspension after financial irregularities were found by then assistant director (audit) Rajasekar in his panchayat.

In his complaint, Chinna Karuppu alleged that during a meeting of panchayat secretaries held a year ago at BDO office, then assistant director Rajasekar had scolded him in front of his subordinates using his caste name. Rajasekar retired a month ago from service.

Based on the complaint, Kottampatti police registered a case under sections 506(i) of IPC and 3 (i) (x) of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act against Rajasekar.

A police official said, “Though Chinna Karuppu had requested Rajasekar to not refer his case to the Collector, Rajasekar had forwarded the file.

Subsequently, Chinna lodged the complaint. An enquiry conducted by the Collector and Superintendent of Police had found factual errors in his complaint and had dismissed his plea. However, he approached the HC seeking direction to lodge a case against Rajasekar.”
