DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Saturday said that funds spent for the Classical Tamil conference during the DMK regime were not handled by him or other ministers but by government bureaucrats.

In the question and answer column in his party organ Murosoli, Karunanidhi, in the context of a petition in the Madras HC seeking probe into alleged mismanagement of funds for the conference, said that the same officer who was the finance secretary then holds the position even now.

A special officer was also appointed to oversee the conference by his government in 2010.  “Whether there was any connection between those who managed the meet and the funds spent could be learnt from them (officers) and the files they handled.”
