VELLORE: The initiative taken by Germany-based Kramski Stamping and Moulding Private Limited (KSMPL) at Pallikonda, to establish an Electronic Industrial Cluster in Vellore district has yielded result. The government of India recently issued necessary notification in this regard.
Last year, in association with the VIT university and the Electronic Council of India (ELCINA), KSMPL had approached the department of Electronics and Information Technology attached to the Ministry for Communication Information Technology with a plea to establish an electronic manufacturing cluster in Vellore.
On November 3, the ministry responded positively with the notification as part of the Modified Special Incentive Package (MSIPS) in the electronic system design and manufacturing sector.
A jubilant S Nagarajan, general manager of KSMPL said, it must be great news for the entrepreneurs here to proceed with confidence to make Vellore a big electronic cluster. In addition to Vellore, Krishnagiri district has also been notified under this category. The initiative to bring Vellore on the electronic map of India began in 2012 when the government of India came out with its national electronic policy, recalled Nagarajan.
“We were tracking the development and we began organising local units to get ready for the cluster from the beginning of 2013,” he said adding, “With the support from SIPCOT recently, which had pushed papers from the State government, the notification became a reality this month.”
According to the notification issued by the joint secretary to government of India, Dr Ajay Kumar, all units within the notified areas located within industrial estates or an area approved by State/Central/local government or municipal authorities for use of industrial purpose would be eligible for MSIPS benefits. The financial assistance under the scheme is flexible in the form of grant-in-aid spread over a period of time.
Now that the notification has been issued, separate projects for assistance under the EMC scheme can be prepared and applications made for different verticals in these notified areas.
These applications would be considered by the ministry in accordance with the EMC scheme as per the gazette of India 2012.
The Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITY) may also issue the supplementary list of Notified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters for the purpose of MSIPS or amend the existing list as required in the best interest of the schemes.
The notifications would also change according to applications received from time-to-time till the validity of MSIPS scheme.
