22-year-old Held for Raping Class III Girl

An eight-year-old girl studying in class III was sexually assaulted by her 22-year-old neighbour, while the victim was on her way to take bath in a nearby pond situated at Aayakaranpulam Sethi IV village in the district on Sunday.

The Vedaranyam police personnel secured the 22-year-old man on Monday. The condition of the ailing victim under treatment at Nagapattinam GH is said to be stable.

Vedaranyam All Women Police Station personnel said, the victim was studying in a private school near Aay-akaranpulam Sethi IV village of Vedaranyam block.

Sources said that the girl’s father had been working abroad.  On Sunday evening, when the victim’s mother had left home for some personal work, the girl who reportedly was alone at home, went to take bath at a nearby pond. Her neighbour, identified as Thangapandiyan, son of Rathinam intercepted the girl and reportedly sexually assaulted her after forcibly taking her to his house. Later, on Sunday evening, the girl fell ill and, subsequently she narrated the horrific incident to her mother.

The victim was taken to Vedaranyam GH for first aid. Following this, a complaint was lodged at the Vedaranyam All Women Police Station on Sunday. Meanwhile, the accused Thangapandiyan was secured by the police personnel near Vedaranyam on Monday.

The medical report of the victim is awaited and the accused has been booked under Sections 6 and 10 of the Protection of Children Under Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Held for Torture

A youth was arrested by Nagudi police on charges of torturing a minor girl with an intention to marry her while she was alone at her house in the district.

Sources said a 15-year-old girl of Konnakadu near Nag-udi, who had just completed her SSLC examination was being allegedly tortured by Dhansekar (25) of the same village to marry him for the last one year. She refused to accept his offer. On Saturday evening, Dhanasekar, forcibly entered her house when she was alone and insisted her to marry him, threatening her with dire conseque-nces.
