Sandalwood Auction Fetches Rs5.20 Crore

VELLORE: Eleven tonnes of sandalwood logs were auctioned to the tune of Rs 5.20 crore on Wednesday. The auction was organised in the sandalwood depot in Tirupattur.

The auction was held under the supervision of Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest T S Srinivasamurthy. A total of seven contractors, who were registered with the Forest Department from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Chennai took part in the auction.

According to the District Forest Officer of Tirupattur Dinkar Kumar, a total of 50 tonnes of sandalwood was put up for auction. Of them, 11 tonnes of different categories including roots, jajpokal, ainbagar and milvachilta were sold out.
