Seven Kids Rescued During Anti-Child Labour Drive

VELLORE: Seven child labourers were rescued here during a drive against child labour on Wednesday.

A team, led by Project Director of Child Labour Abolition Support Scheme (CLASS), Vellore, M Rajapandian, conducted a drive in and around Vellore New Bus Stand, Old Bus Stand and Gandhi Road. They rescued N Noorullah (12), son of Nazeer of Shenbakkam,   Pikkas (11), son of Pindersha of Bihar, Ameen (alias) Sadiq (14), son of Iqbal of Sainathapuram,Vellore, Abdul Kalam (12), son of Sahul Hameed of Vellore, Ruba (12), daughter of Suraj of Rajasthan, Anil (10), son of Pikkaram of Rajasthan and Mohammed Sadiq (13), son of Mohabub Basha of Saidapet of Vellore. The child labourers were handed over to district child protection officer Saravanan. “The labour department will take action against the tea shop who employed Sadiq. The others were selling music instruments, vessels and fruits. The parents will be summoned on Thursday,” said Rajapandian.
