VELLORE: Around 30 Village Administrative Officers (VAO) of Katpadi Taluk on Saturday petitioned the Collector, demanding action against broker, S Venkatesan of Senji village near Katpadi, who allegedly threatened them to sign certificates without collecting proof.

A VAO officer of Lathari Venkatesan said the broker approached him to get a legal heir certificate signed but it had no seal or signature from the taluk office. “I refused to sign. So, he (broker) complained against me to the Katpadi Tahsildar that I was demanding a bribe to issue a certificate.”

Other VAOs in the Katapadi Taluk alleged that the broker blackmailed them, saying he would complain to the Anti-Corruption Cell in Chennai that the VAOs were demanding bribes from the public.
