Fete De Pondicherie from Today

PUDUCHERRY: The annual cultural event Fete de Pondicherie will be organised in the Union Territory from August 14 to 16 in five different places in collaboration with South Zone Cultural centre(SZCC), Thanjavur.

Stating this at a press conference on Wednesday, Minister for Power, Art and Culture T Thiagarajan  said the festival would be conducted at Gandhi Thidal on Beach road and also in the rural areas of Bahour, Murungapakkam, Paththukannu and Madagadipet.

Around 150 artists from across the country as well as 150 local artists would take part in the festival. It will also be conducted in the outlying areas of Karaikal on August 17 and 18  and in Yanam on August 18 and 19. An expenditure of `32 lakh has been earmarked with equal contribution by the Department of Art and Culture and SZCC, Thanjavur.

The Minister, who is also the chairman of SJC committee said two events ‘Yatra’ and  ‘Octave’ are also planned to be conducted.  Yatra is a chain of programmes to be conducted by young artists in 30 villages, one in each constituency. On the other hand, Octave is a multi-coloured event in which renowned artists would participate.
