First-ever Kite fest to Paint Pondy Sky Colourful

PUDUCHERRY: As part of the tourism promotion activities, the Department of Tourism is organising the first ever kite festival here from August 15 to 17 at New Port area, Uppalam, in association with Kite Life Foundation, Cochin.

The event has been planned as a spectacular show of kite flying in various sizes, shapes and colours, said Minister for Tourism P Rajavelu.

Briefing Express he said the three-day event will feature professional kite flying by various teams from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Kerala and Chennai.

Besides kite making workshops for kids above nine years of age, kite making and flying competitions, kite exhibition , Rangoli contest and poem writing on kite would be part of the festival.

The various competitions are expected to bring out the creativity in the participants. The kite making would be judged on the basis of size and shape of the kite and the concepts  brought out in the kite. As part of safety measures, kite cutting and manja would not be allowed in the festival.

The department of tourism would be the facilitator and would invest `5 lakh for conducting the festival.
