PUDUCHERRY:  Puducherry Health Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Apollo Hospitals, Kakinada, on Wednesday for providing specialty and super specialty healthcare to the people of Yanam region at the Yanam Government General Hospital (GGH).

“In order to sort out the lack of specialist services to the patients of Yanam GGH,  a scheme of outsourcing of specialists and super specialist services was introduced, keeping in view that the hospital is having support staff and is well equipped and competent to render the services,” said Dr K V Raman, director, Health and Family Welfare. As the patients from Yanam are not receiving adequate treatment facilities at the GGH due to lack of specialist services, they are  compelled to seek treatment at private health facilities in Kakinada.

The MOU was signed by Dr K V Raman, director of Health and Family Welfare Services and Dr Ranjith Reddy, Apollo Administrator in the presence of  Malladi Krishna Rao, MLA and S Ganesan, regional administrator, Yanam. Under the MOU, the services of neuro surgeon, cardiologist, urologist, orthopaedician and joint replacement surgeon, pulmonologist, surgical gastroenterologist, laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon and anesthesiologist would be provided, he said. The specialist doctors would be visiting the general hospital once a week, on Mondays.
