PUDUCHERRY: Police arrested four persons here on Thursday night in connection with the double murder case of a local rowdy and his friend.

Police sources said the special team nabbed the four, Tamizharasan (26), Vimal Kumar (27), Karthick G (26) and Vinayagam (29) who were hiding in a place near the Mettuppalayam industrial estate.

According to police, the deceased Dinesh (25), once a notorious rowdy and Tamizharasan, a rowdy, were partners in crimes committed in the past, but the duo parted ways following the suicide of another friend.

After getting married, Dinesh went on to lead a life away from crime in Puducherry. However, Tamizharasan continued with anti-social activities by committing them in the neighboring districts of Tamil Nadu.

Tamizharasan used to enter Puducherry after committing crime and to escape from the cases registered against him by the Tamil Nadu police. However, whenever he entered Puducherry, police here arrested him under some pretext or the other.

Suspecting that Dinesh might be acting as an informer to the Puducherry police about his movements in Puducherry, Tamizharasan decided to get rid off Dinesh. With the help of three others, he planned to eliminate him. The four went to the place near a private industrial unit at the Mettupalayam area, where Dinesh and his friend Rajesh (30) were consuming liquor and hacked both of them to death on Wednesday night.

The accused were produced before a judge and were remanded.
