'De Jure' Day Honour for Freedom Fighters

PUDUCHERRY: The Union Territory of Puducherry celebrated its 52nd ‘De-Jure’ Day on Saturday. On August 16, 1962, the UT was merged with the Indian Union after the French Parliament ratified the ‘Treaty of Cession’ that was signed by the two governments on Nov 1, 1954.

A public holiday was declared and Chief Minister N Rangasamy honoured the freedom fighters at a function organised to mark the occasion. He assured them enhancement of pension if Puducherry attained Statehood.
