Spurned Lover Hurls Acid at Girl, Arrested

NAGAPATTINAM: The Sirkazhi police on Sunday arrested a 27-year-old man who threw acid on his girlfriend after her family did not give consent to their proposed marriage. According to the police the irate youth had hurled a bottle of mild Hydrochloric acid at the victim on Saturday night.

The victim hailed from Kamarajapuram of Sirkazhi town and was employed in a textile showroom. She had a love affair with Thangapandiyan (27) for the past four years. Thangapandiyan who was working in a private tourist firm at Chennai, often used to visit her.

Since the girl was not responding properly for the phone calls made by the accused, Thangapandiyan along with his family was said to have visited her home with a proposal for marriage which was turned down by her parents by saying that they have already arranged an alliance for their daughter. Dejected over the incident, Thangapandiyan hid himself near the girl’s house on Saturday night and threw a bottle of Hydrochloric acid at her while she was coming out of her house on Saturday night in which the girl suffered burns on her lips and neck and was rushed to the Sirkazhi GH, where her condition was said to be stable.
