Another Train Robbery, Man Loses Chain

VELLORE: A robber struck again on Wednesday in a moving train in the Chennai-Katpadi section and snatched a four-sovereign gold chain from a 45-year-old passenger.

The incident occurred around 1.30 am when the Dadar Express was entering the Katpadi Railway Station. However, the Government Railway Police personnel in Katpadi have not filed a case till the evening.

Sources said Ravindra Babu, a resident of Kasavanpuram near Thalavadi in Mysore, was travelling in Berth 12 in coach S6 of the Puducherry-Mumbai Dadar Chalukya Express. The robber snatched the chain from Babu, who was fast asleep, just before the train entered Katpadi station, and jumped off the train.

“The passengers were sleeping. Taking advantage of it, the robber struck. It all happened before the train came to a halt,” said a police officer and added that the incident has put them in a spot as it was the third time in the last eight days robbers have targeted train passengers between Katpadi and Puliyamangalam in the district.

Babu filed a complaint with the GRP, Katpadi, before resuming his journey to Yestwanpur in the same train. He had boarded the train in Puducherry.
