Car of VCK Man Damaged in Crude Bomb Attack

KUMBAKONAM:  A crude bomb was hurled at the parked car of a district level VCK functionary in Kumbakonam in the early hours of Wednesday. The windshield of the car was also found to have been smashed. No one was present in the car when the incident occurred and no injures were reported.

According to police, M Alex alias Puratchiyalan (32), district-level deputy organiser of Tholilalar Viduthalai Munnani, the labour wing of VCK had parked his car on the 60 feet road near his house on Tuesday night.

In the early hours of Wednesday, a gang of six persons smashed the windshield of the vehicle and reportedly hurled a crude bomb at it. They fled the spot on seeing some women who had come there to fetch drinking water.

In the attack, the windshield and radiator guard of the car were damaged. Based on a complaint from Alex, Kumbakonam West Police registered a case against 10 persons, including Sakthi of Manikkoondu, Sakthivel of Thiruppurambiyam, Rajkumar of Thenampadukai, Bala of Auto Nagar, Ranjith, Mohan and Ilayaraja. They were on the lookout for all accused.

Police sources said the attack was the result of previous enmity between two groups and assured that the culprits would be caught soon.
