Man Arrested for Killing ‘Gay’ Ex-Navy Officer

ERODE : The Perundurai police have arrested Danapal (24) of Kokkarayanpet, Namakkal district, on the charge of murdering a retired naval officer Viswanathan (63) in his house at Pandiyan Nagar, Vijayamangalam, near Perundurai, few days ago. However, the accused claimed he killed the man for seeking sexual favours.

It is said Viswanathan was residing alone in the house while his wife Sundarambal (60) and son Suvindar (27), an engineer, were residing in the US due to some difference of opinion with the retired man. On Wednesday, as the door of his house was not opened the neighbours  visited his house and found his body in a pool of blood ed  under the cot.

The body bore head injuries, indicating that the man was attacked with a deadly weapon. The police formed a special team and arrested Danapal on Friday.

He said  Viswanathan had befriended  him by assuring to arrange a job in the Navy when he visited Kokkarayanpet some months back. Then, the retired officer asked Danapal to visit his house. When he visited on the fateful day, the former officer invited him to have sex.  Angered by this,  Danapal attacked him and escaped. But, he did not think that he died of the attack. The police produced Danapal before the Perundurair court and the judge Sridhar remanded him for 15 days in Coimbatore prison, police said.
