Cops Get Shot in Arm With Twitter Handle

PUDUCHERRY: The twitter account of Puducherry police became operational to enable the public utilise the facility to inform the police about crime, criminal activities and accidents in their respective areas.

The twitter handle is https://twitter.com/puducherypolice.

Inspector Bascarane of Special Task Force told Express that the twitter account was made operational at the instructions of Inspector General of Police Praveer Ranjan

The police here had launched two  facebook accounts - Puducherry Police and Traffic Police Puducherry - so that  the public can use this facility also to register their complaints as well as provide suggestions regarding the improvement of the traffic.

The online registration of complaints through the Citizen Portal is expected to be launched soon.

Asked about the initial response, Bascarane said the use of social media would certainly pick up in the upcoming days as the youngsters of the new generation are more inclined to latest technology and the use of modern communication gadgets.
