CBI Granted 3 Days to Grill IOB Union President

CHENNAI: A special court here on Monday granted three days custody to the Central Bureau of Investigation to interrogate the President of All Indian Overseas Bank Employees Union arrested last week in connection with a job scam.

The matter pertains to criminal cases filed by CBI in connection with illegal recruitment of 950 temporary employees, including messengers and sweepers, in Indian Overseas Bank branches in Tamil Nadu. On December 04, CBI arrested L Balasubramanian, Special Cadre Assistant (Rtd), IOB and President of AIOBEU as the probe revealed he was the kingpin.

The agency alleged that Balasubramanian was instrumental in introducing age and educational qualifications criteria to get a better platform for manipulation and negotiation with candidates. He was key in getting some candidates, who were his house helps, absorbed in IOB and also directed regional union representatives to collect illegal gratification from the candidates. Regional Secretaries, Vice-President and General Secretary of AIOBEU and few officials of IOB Head Office were also arrested by CBI.
