Hunt on for Mom in Girl's Rape Case

RAMANATHAPURAM: In a heart-rending incident, a paramour with the consent of his woman partner sexually abused her 12-year-old daughter in a village near Rameswaram on Tuesday.

Police said that Umeshwari (40) of Serankottai had separated from her husband a year ago and has been living with her five children, including two daughters, at Mandapam.

During her stay in Mandapam, she developed an affair with a Lankan refugee identified as Karupannan, who was involved in fishing activities at Rameswaram. The man during his visits to Umeshwari’s house began misbehaving with her daughter.  When the girl told her mother about Karupannan’s act, Umeshwari warned her not to reveal it to any one.  Emboldened by the mother’s attitude, Karupannan continued to abuse the girl.

Unable to bear the sex assault, the girl shared her plight to others.  Meenambal, Inspector, all women police station, who came to know about the girl’s situation, rescued the minor.

Police have launched a manhunt to nab Umeshwari and her paramour.
