Vaiko Meets Envoys of EU, Lobbies For Eelam

CHENNAI: MDMK leader Vaiko on Tuesday met the ambassadors of various countries of the European Union and stressed the need for a referendum among Sri Lankan Tamils living in the island and abroad on a separate homeland for them.

Explaining the plight of the Lankan Tamils, he gave them CDs containing the visuals of the genocidal war conducted by the island army, the brutal killing of civilians, including children, shelling of hospitals and schools, besides the torture and rape of Tamil women.

According to an MDMK press release, Vaiko also distributed CDs containing his speech at the Brussels conference explaining the Sri Lankan Tamil issue and the need for a referendum. He also discussed the political situation in the

country with them. The ambassadors included those from Czech Republic, Estonia, Bulgaria, Poland, Latvia and Luxembourg which have joined the European Union recently. Earlier, in a statement here, Vaiko alleged that Karnataka forest officials were troubling the Tamil families living at Hogenakkal in an attempt to evict them from the area.
