CHENNAI: Residents of gated communities are in a quandary over availing gas subsidy under the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme since gas connection is not in the name of individual residents.
A Bharatgas official said that in Chennai region, 5000 residents living in 81 gated communities consume piped gas. A senior official of an oil company explained that the secretary of the residents’ welfare association of each gated community would have to take responsibility for completing the DBTL registration formalities. “The LPG consumer ID of the particular gated community/apartment would be linked to the common bank account (maintained by the welfare association) to which the subsidy would be remitted,” he said.
