CHENNAI: Holding that healthy debates on issues of religion continue for millions of years and the same cannot be stopped, Madras High Court granted permission to Dr Ambedkar Chiruthai Iyakkam to hold a debate on the topic “Whether a True Tamilian is a Hindu or Not.”  Police had  refused permission for the debate to be held on December 14 on the ground that it would result in law and order problem.

Justice V Ramasubramanian observed that the earliest signs of rationalist approach and the existence of opposite views on matters of religion could be traced to the Mahabaratha. It is only the opposite view point that sustains one view point,” the judge said and directed police to grant permission.
