RAMESWARAM: Six persons were arrested today for allegedly torching a bus during a demonstration on November 6 demanding the release of five Indian fishermen sentenced to death by a Sri Lankan court, police said.

They were among the 71 persons against whom cases had been registered for indulging in violence, they said, adding, the others are still at large.

Fishermen all over the state had observed a day-long strike on November 6 protesting the death sentence awarded to five fishermen by the Sri Lankan court for drug trafficking.

The five fishermen sentenced to death in Sri Lanka were released on November 19 after President Mahinda Rajapaksa pardoned them.
