KARUR: Villagers of Kuchipatti in Kulithalai taluk were shocked to know that their hamlet is not registered with the National Population Register (NPR) when they tried to obtain the Aadhaar card, recently. The village, where as many as 20 families and 128 people reside, is near Thogamalai in Thalinji panchayat.

Thalinji village administrative officer Aravind told Express that as soon as the issue came up in June, they had submitted relevant data such as family card, voter’s ID, agriculture card of all families to the authorities concerned in the district.

The official also added that he also issued NPR forms to every family and had in person submitted all the details. Revenue officials, when contacted by Express claimed  that they were looking into the issue.

They claimed that the villagers had availed  all government welfare schemes and were not deprived of any benefits.

The village would probably be added in the yet-to-be prepared NPR of 2015 and a special camp may be organised, they added.
