SALEM: In an incident reminiscent of the recent killing of an ATM security supervisor in Cuddalore, the chopped body parts of the relative of the former Director General of Police and the present Special Advisor to the State government K Ramanujam was found in a canal at Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district on Saturday.
The murder came to light when the residents of Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district alerted the police about foul smell emanating from a canal.
On information, a team rushed to the spot and recovered three bags. On opening them, the police found chopped body parts of a man.
A team of doctors was called in and a spot post-mortem was conducted. Investigations revealed that the deceased was Duraisamy (58), a resident of Anna Nagar in Vadukapatti near Sankari.
The Sankari police said that Duraisamy had been missing since December 17 and a missing complaint had been registered.
Duraisamy, a realtor and a father of two, had left for Sankari on a business trip, but failed to return.
Though a search was launched to trace Duraisamy, police were not able to find him.
Sources said that police were looking into the murder from all angles and suspected it to be a fallout of a business deal gone wrong.
According to a senior official privy to the investigations, “We suspect Duraisamy was kidnapped and murdered in Sankari. The murderers chopped off his body into three parts and discarded them in Namakkal to throw the investigators off the scent. The deceased was a relative of former Director General of Police (DGP) and present Special Advisor K Ramanujam.”
The incident created a flutter in the area, as it came in the wake of a similar murder of an ATM security guard based in Chennai and his chopped body was found in a remote location in Cuddalore district. An electrician, Velmurugan, was arrested for the gruesome murder.
