Kaththi Faces Fresh Plagiarism Charge

THANJAVUR:  District court here on Monday issued notices to the makers of actor Vijay’s film Kaththi on a petition filed by a short film-maker who alleged plagiarism.

A Rajasekar of Keela Veedhi, Tirukkattupalli in the district in his petition under Civil Procedure code and section 62 of Copyrights Act claimed he had scripted and directed a short film Thaagaboomi based on agriculture and the miseries of peasants of Thanjavur .

The protagonist of the film Karmegam, a farmer who refused to part away his land to the companies of the nearby city finally commits suicide, he said.

Rajasekar said his film was screened in festivals including Norway Tamil film festival in March 2013, a Chennai film festival in April 2013 and adjudged second best in the short film festival conducted by Thiruvalluvar Thiraipattarai. His work also received good reviews in renowned magazines, he added.  He said, responding to a call by A R Murugadoss, the film director, for the opening of assistant film directors, he applied with his profile and  the details of the shortfilm Thaagaboomi through the mail id of Murugadoss.
