‘AIADMK Popularity Will Ensure Poll Win Anytime’

CHENNAI: “In the political history of Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK is more popular than ever before and will register a spectacular victory if elections are held anytime. This is due to the concerted efforts of our leader J Jayalalithaa as she has ensured this through her concerted effort. We vow to work under her stewardship with utmost loyalty”, was the pledge taken by party functionaries and cadre at the memorial of party founder MG Ramachandran, on the occasion of his 27th death anniversary.

Among the 14 pledges read out by Chief Minister and AIADMK treasurer O Panneerselvam, the above one assumes significance in the present political scenario wherein many parties have their claims and strategies to face the 2016 Assembly elections. “Let us all continue to pray that our leader comes out of all troubles as she has been objective working for the welfare of the people. She possesses the mental fortitude to overcome any problem,” was another pledge.

Earlier in the day, the AIADMK supremo led the State in paying homage to MGR, her political mentor, by offering floral tributes to his portrait, at her Poes Garden residence. AIADMK presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, State Ministers, thousands of party cadre paid homage at the MGR memorial. Many pledges read out by Panneerselvam highlighted the achievements of Jayalalithaa and the cadre vowed to pass on the message to the people.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko and his party paid homage at the MGR memorial on Marina. At DMDK headquarters, party president Vijaykant paid a floral tribute to the portrait of MGR. MGR Kazhagam president, RM Veerappan, former Union Minister S Thirunavukkarasar were among those who paid homage to the late leader.

The AIADMK cadre observed the death anniversary of MGR in TN and in States where the party has its units. In Chennai, they offered floral tributes to all MGR statues and portraits.
