60-year-old Man Attempts Suicide Over Property Dispute with Brother

VELLORE: A 65-year-old man attempted suicide by immolation after he had come along with AIADMK cadres to garland a statue of former Chief Minister M.G.R in Ambur town on Wednesday.

Murugesan, a local of Samiyarmadam shocked everyone around, including the the cadres when he all of a sudden took out a bottle of kerosene and doused himself in kerosene. The incident created a flutter in the area.

The cadres were caught unawares but they immediately overpowered him and poured water over his body. On information, the Ambur Town police reached the spot and picked him up for inquiry.

He reportedly told the police that he took the step owing to a property dispute with his brother.

The police let him off with a warning.
