2 Killed, 9 Hurt in Separate Accidents

Two women were killed and nine others, including a six-year-old girl,  injured in two different accidents in Ambur in the early hours of Tuesday.

Two women were killed and nine others, including a six-year-old girl,  injured in two different accidents in Ambur in the early hours of Tuesday.

In the first accident which occurred at around 2 am near Madhanur, Shailaja (50) was killed. The police said Shailaja was accompanying her sister Sheela’s family to Vellore. They were going by car.

Sheela and her husband Rajesh, who was behind the wheel, were taking their daughter Sharika to a private hospital in Vellore for some treatment.

The accident took place on the under-construction bridge on the National Highway- 46 when Rajesh rammed the car into the retaining wall.

Under the impact, the car careened off into a 15-feet deep ditch near the bridge, killing Shailaja on the spot. The young girl sustained minor injury, the police said.

In the second accident, 45-year-old Chinthamani of Nammakal district was killed and five of her family sustained injuries.

The accident took place at around 7.30 am near Senkilikuppam when an unidentified vehicle hit the car in which Chinthamani and her family were travelling. The car overturned. The victims were returning to their native place after attending a family function of their relative in Chennai.

The police registered cases and are investigating.
