A writ plea seeking a direction to the Election Commission of India to take action against Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for alleged violation of the provisions of the Representation of the People Act was rejected by the Madras High Court on Tuesday. The plea also sought to restrain the State DGP from granting permission to the party to hold a public meeting in the city on February 8. The first bench of Chief Justice RK Agrawal and Justice K Ravichandra Baabu rejected the plea while dismissing a writ petition from Gowthama Sannah. The PIL was only for publicity. There is no merit whatsoever in the same, the bench added.
