With the 2G spectrum scam returning to haunt the DMK first family, Kalaignar TV top official Sharad Kumar on Tuesday afternoon visited Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi at her CIT Colony residence exactly at the same time when, in Delhi, Prashant Bhushan of the Aam Aadmi Party was releasing tapes that contained the purported phone conversations between the two with IPS officer Jaffer Sait.

Sharad Kumar, who was also arrested and incarcerated at the Tihar jail in the scam, reached Kanimozhi’s residence at around 4 pm and reportedly left by 5 pm, sources said. However, it was not clear whether Sharad Kumar got to meet the Rajya Sabha MP.

While he was inside the house, medical staff from a private hospital were seen moving out of the residence with a blood pressure apparatus in hand. Also seen leaving the house was former minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna, a confidant of Kanimozhi. A battery of media personnel also descended on the area.

Kanimozhi had been rushed to one of the hospitals nearest to her home in CIT Colony on February 2. Even as doctors and DMK functionaries went about parroting that Kanimozhi had been admitted due to low blood pressure and blood sugar arising from stress, rumours did the rounds that she had attempted suicide after the tapes had been released by a website on February 1. It was only on Monday that Kanimozhi was discharged from a private hospital after she was admitted with complaints of fatigue and tiredness a day earlier.

The version of the party was that she was exhausted after working on a speech on the reservation issue for the upcoming parliament session. A rattled DMK

patriarch and Kanimozhi’s father, M Karunanidhi, in fact met her at the hospital. So did a number of other senior party functionaries, including the heir apparent M K Stalin.

However, there was also a rumour doing rounds that the tapes, a section of which was released on Saturday itself on a Tamil whistleblower website, could have upset Kanimozhi.
